Student Members’ Meetings are one of the key ways you can shape CSU, hold it to account, and make your voice heard.
We run two types of Student Members’ Meetings:
- Annual Student Members’ Meeting (ASMM)
- Extraordinary Student Members’ Meeting (ESMM)
Annual Student Members’ Meetings
Held once a year in Spring, this meeting is open to all students and is your chance to:
- Hear updates on CSU’s work in the past year
- Hear updates from the Elected Officers about what they’ve achieved
- See how we’ve spent our money in the previous tax year, and how much we’ve got in reserves
- Ask questions to the CSU team, Elected Officers, and Board of Trustees
- Vote on affiliations CSU has to external organisations
- Hold CSU’s Board of Trustees to account
We’ll advertise the ASMM widely via email, our website, and social media nearer the time, so keep an eye out!

Extraordinary Student Members’ Meetings
These meetings are held at request or vote and are also open to all students. They can be called by:
- A majority vote by Union Assembly
- A petition to the President with 250 or more student signatures
An ESMM will have a specific reason for happening, so the students who called it will submit their reasoning, proposals, motions or other papers. No further business may be transacted at the ESMM unless approved by the full-time Elected Officers.
If you’d like to enact an ESMM with a petition, you can use our Petitions webpage. You’ll need submit a form (linked on that page) with the title of your Petition and a description. The Democracy & Campaigns Coordinator will then contact you to finalise the wording and it’ll be published on the Petitions page for all students to see. You can then publicise your petition however you would like to. Once you reach 250 signatures, an ESMM will be held in accordance with our Bye-Laws.
We’ll advertise ESMMs widely via email, our website, and social media nearer the time, so keep an eye out!
Previous ESMM Minutes
- No ESMMs have been called in recent years. If/when they occur, the Minutes will be available to read here.
Why attend a Student Members’ Meeting?
These meetings are a vital part of our democracy. Your participation helps ensure CSU remains student-led, transparent, and focused on what matters to you. We also need to reach a certain number of students to meet quorum (the minimum amount of members at a meeting for a vote to be considered democratic).
All students are welcome and encouraged to attend, whether or not you have anything to say!
