Have an active social media account

This means keeping your society’s social media account up to date – maybe introduce your committee on there and promote events your society is doing!

Follow CSU on Instagram

Follow Chester Students Union on Instagram: @chesterstudentsunion.

Follow the officers on Instagram

Follow the officer account on Instagram: @csuofficerteam.

Host a social – 1 point for each social you hold (maximum 1 point per week).

Host a social for your society. This must be an activity that isn’t related to your regular society activity, (for example, Chess Society going to the cinema) and have a minimum of 5 members in attendance. 

Every 5 memberships

For every 5 members your society gains, you will earn 1 point.

Host a charity event

Fundraise or volunteer for a charity! (Following the event procedure if applicable). You can claim 2 points for each separate campaign. 

Take a society trip

Attend a conference, convention or any activity outside of Chester (or away from your main site if your society is based at Birkenhead or Warrington). This can be a day trip or overnight stay.

Attend additional training – 2 points per session (per person)

Have a committee member attend any additional in-person/online training (Look After Your Mate, First Aid, Consent, Safeguarding, Mental Health & more!) – these must be relevant to your society and/or committee duties. 

Apply & use the development grant

Claim from the society development grant – through a successful application.

Add all your regular activity to your webpage

List your regular sessions and events on your society’s page. Points can only be claimed when you’ve had a whole term’s worth of activity uploaded. 

Create a budget plan

You can either create a budget plan for the whole year or create separate budget plans for bigger events. You can upload the plan on the points submission form. 

Take part or sign up for society spotlight

Society Spotlight is a feature in our monthly newsletter for societies. Up to three societies a month can submit a short article to promote their society or events. Nominate your society to be included in this by sending a short article to studentopps@chester.ac.uk. You will gain points even if you aren’t featured that month. 

Fundraise for society social funds

Hold a fundraiser to raise money for your societies social account. You can do this by holding sponsored bake sales, stay awakes, runs or more!

Hold a joint session or event with another society

Collaborate with another CSU society on an event, social or any other project. Get creative and network with other committees to see what you can collaborate on. 

Host a ‘major event’ event – 3 points per event

Host an event for your society that is not part of your regular activity/sessions with an attendance of 50 or more and following the event procedure.

Attend an open day or applicant day

Facilitate an activity or demonstration at an open day or applicant day. Dates will be shared by the opportunities team, or you can ask by emailing studentopps@chester.ac.uk.

Attend CSU’s ASMM (Annual Student Members’ Meeting) – 4 points + 1 point for every member you bring!

Every year, CSU hold the Annual Members Meeting, where all students are invited to attend. The date and details will be emailed to all societies closer to the time, so keep your eyes peeled.

Note: Your society will earn 4 points if at least 1 of your committee attends the AMM and earn 1 point for every other member you bring, up to 10 points, meaning you could earn a total of 14 points for this activity!

Host a joint event with CSU/University department or participate in a CSU event

Collaborate on a project with the SU or University department OR perform/present at a major CSU event. Have any event ideas you think would work? Email us and we’ll discuss it with you: studentopps@chester.ac.uk.

Society to have 50%+ members vote in the CSU elections

Encourage your members to vote in the CSU Officer, Union Assembly & Society Committee elections – any society with 50% or more of their membership to vote will gain 5 points. Then you will be rewarded with additional points for reaching each milestone:

• 60% = +1 points
• 70% = +2 points
• 80% = +3 points
• 90% = +4 points
• 100% = +5 points

This means your society could be awarded up to 20 points!

Reaffiliate for next year

Successfully elect a new committee for the following year during the March elections.
